Mason Collective and VLAD have taken a Route 94 record from 2014 and pushed it straight back into the centre of contemporary club music.
Their new version of “Tell You Why” was released through Defected on October 30 and has already reached No.8 in Beatport’s current Tech House Top 100.
The Extended Mix runs at 130 BPM, lasts 5:32 and sits in B-flat minor.
For DJ TOP 100, however, the more interesting story is the combination of artists behind the record.
A Route 94 Track Rebuilt for 2026
“Tell You Why” is not a completely new composition.
Route 94 originally released the track in 2014 as part of the Fly 4 Life EP, during the deep-house wave that defined a major part of the decade’s UK club sound.
Twelve years later, Mason Collective and VLAD have brought the track back with a new version designed for the current dancefloor.
Defected describes the new interpretation as preserving the recognizable groove of the original while adding stronger synth work and heavier low-end energy.
Rather than treating the older track as a nostalgic reissue, the collaboration places it directly inside 2026 Tech House.
And the Beatport ranking suggests the update has connected immediately.
Mason Collective Return to Defected
The release also marks another important Defected appearance for Mason Collective.
The Manchester trio first appeared on the label in 2023 with “People In Love”, while their 2026 catalogue has included releases such as “Sun Goes Down”, “Mi Combi” and “Ride”.
Their current Beatport catalogue reflects a sound that moves between Tech House, Latin Tech and adjacent club territory.
“Tell You Why” now gives them another major entry — and one that connects their present-day production identity with a record from an earlier generation of UK house.
VLAD Brings a Different Background Into the Collaboration
VLAD adds another dimension.
Defected notes that the producer has contributed to multiple Gold and Platinum-certified records and worked on Burna Boy’s I Told Them…, a project that earned him a Grammy nomination.
That makes the collaboration especially interesting.
Route 94 brings the original house record.
Mason Collective bring their contemporary club identity.
VLAD brings production experience extending beyond the traditional electronic-music circuit.
Together, they have created a version that has moved into Beatport’s Tech House Top 10 almost immediately.
Route 94 Is Having a Strong Defected Run
“Tell You Why” also continues an active period for Route 94 on Defected.
Recent releases include new remixes of “4Get The Girl” from GUDFELLA & Jackie Hollander, Samm and Mellizos, all released through the label during the second half of 2026.
That gives the current project a wider context.
Route 94’s catalogue is being reintroduced to a new club generation through updated interpretations, while the original artist remains directly attached to the releases.
For Mason Collective and VLAD, reaching No.8 after only a few days is a strong result.
For Route 94, it shows that a record first released in 2014 can return twelve years later and still compete with some of the biggest current Tech House releases.
That combination of history and immediate chart impact makes “Tell You Why” one of the most interesting new entries in Beatport’s Top 10 this week.
