One of trance music’s most recognizable titles is back near the top of Beatport more than two decades after first becoming part of club history.

Mauro Picotto and Matty Ralph’s new version of “Lizard” currently sits at No.3 in Beatport’s Trance (Main Floor) Top 100.

Released through Armada Music on October 16, the Extended Mix runs at 147 BPM and is classified as Hard Trance. Current BeatStats data also confirms the track at No.3 in the live Beatport ranking.

For DJ TOP 100, the most interesting part is the partnership itself.

Mauro Picotto Revisits One of His Defining Records

“Lizard” belongs to the group of records that established Mauro Picotto as one of the major figures of late-1990s and early-2000s trance and techno.

Armada lists it alongside titles such as “Iguana”, “Komodo (Save A Soul)” and “Proximus” among the tracks most closely associated with the Italian producer’s career.

Rather than simply reissuing the original, Picotto has spent 2026 revisiting parts of his catalogue through collaborations with contemporary artists.

Earlier this year, “Lizard (V2)” appeared with Indecent Noise at 142 BPM.

The new collaboration with Matty Ralph takes the idea in another direction, raising the tempo to 147 BPM and placing the record firmly inside the current Hard Trance revival.

Matty Ralph Represents the New Trance Generation

Matty Ralph brings a very different career timeline into the collaboration.

The Northern Irish DJ and producer has built his identity around high-energy trance, hard house and nostalgic rave influences, drawing heavily from late-1990s and early-2000s dance music.

That makes the pairing particularly natural.

Picotto helped create some of the records associated with that era.

Ralph belongs to a generation now reinterpreting those sounds for contemporary dancefloors.

Their version of “Lizard” is therefore not simply an older artist working with a younger producer.

It is a direct connection between the original trance era and its current revival.

No.3 in a Competitive Trance Top 10

The chart position makes the collaboration even more significant.

“Lizard” currently sits behind Space 92’s remix of Oxia’s “Domino” and “Loved in Silence” by Aylin Aloski, Amos & Riot Night and Bryce Keuris.

It is ahead of current releases from Hannah Laing & The Rocketman, Above & Beyond and other major trance names.

That means the track is not surviving on nostalgia alone.

It is competing directly with some of the strongest contemporary records in the category.

Picotto Is Having an Extremely Active 2026

The release also forms part of a particularly busy year for Mauro Picotto.

His recent Armada catalogue includes new versions or collaborations around “Iguana”, “I Feel Love”, “Like This Like That”, “Ibiza Dream”, “Papaye”, “Monster” and now “Lizard”.

A new collaboration with Mark Sherry titled “Gecko” is also scheduled for November 13.

That activity shows Picotto using his catalogue as a foundation rather than a museum.

The classic titles remain recognizable, but they are being rebuilt with producers from different generations and different parts of modern trance.

A Classic Title Finds a New Audience

For DJ TOP 100, that may be the real story.

Mauro Picotto does not need “Lizard” to establish his legacy.

Matty Ralph does not need to imitate the original era to build his own identity.

But bringing the two together creates something that connects both audiences.

One producer helped shape the sound.

The other grew up inspired by the culture that followed.

Now their version of “Lizard” is sitting inside Beatport’s Trance Top 3.

More than twenty years later, the title is back near the front of the conversation.
