Robert Hood is best known as one of techno’s most influential figures, but his latest Beatport appearance shows how easily his stripped-back approach can move across genre boundaries.

“Puppet Show” appears in Beatport’s Best New Minimal / Deep Tech selection for October 2026.

Released through M-Plant, the track runs at 134 BPM and is classified on Beatport under Deep Tech. Beatport

That placement is immediately interesting.

Hood’s music has always relied heavily on reduction, repetition and tightly controlled rhythmic structure, qualities that naturally overlap with the logic behind Minimal and Deep Tech.

In this case, Beatport places him alongside a group of artists representing different sides of the category.

Burnski and Kepler lead the selection with “Forest”, while Bashkka follows with “Surrender”.

Benoit & Sergio bring “Walk and Talk” into the list at 126 BPM, Petersky appears with “Feel The Groove”, and Fedo contributes “All Cosmic Soul”. Beatport

Against that backdrop, Hood’s 134 BPM “Puppet Show” stands out as one of the faster entries.

It also gives the chart a connection with an artist whose identity extends far beyond a single Beatport category.

For DJ TOP 100, that is the more interesting angle.

Charts do not only show who is selling or being selected. They also reveal how artists are being positioned within an increasingly fluid electronic music landscape.

A producer associated historically with techno can now sit comfortably inside a Minimal / Deep Tech selection without the move feeling forced.

That says something about Hood’s production language, but also about the genre itself.

Minimal / Deep Tech is broad enough to accommodate house-influenced grooves at one end and leaner, more techno-oriented material at the other.

Robert Hood’s appearance with “Puppet Show” sits right at that intersection.

And for DJs who move between stripped-back house and techno, that makes the track one of the more interesting entries in Beatport’s October selection.
